Exercise Bikes
My father in law bought an exercise bike for his physical therapy. Exercise bike workouts are gentler than treadmill runs and suitable for everyone. Even senior citizens. It is one buy he is very proud of as everyone, from his grandchildren, to his wife and himself use that bike regularly. I'm a regular on that bike too although I'm more a treadmill fan for the calories burnt per minute. Still, one can last a lot longer on an exercise bike than a treadmill and you can even read while on the bike so time passes by more quickly.
I'm probably the one who uses it the most. Each morning, right after brushing my teeth, I get onto the machine and pedal away. One thing I love about these bikes is that you can multi-task. I'd put a laptop on the chair beside me and watch videos while I pedal away. Or read a book. Something not very viable with a treadmill as running is too bumpy to read. On a bike, you more or less stay put while the legs do the work, so you can hold the book steady while reading. Less than a month on that bike and people I met mentioned that I've slimmed down. That encouragement is enough to keep me at it. I stopped using that bike for the time being because of a nasty bout of flu but intend to continue once I recover.

A good bike is paramount in keeping up your workouts. If the seat creaks, chances are it was not fixed properly. At least the one we use has adjustable seats so you can move it closer or further from the handles, to fit the varying leg lengths of the family members, from little kids to tall grown men. These bikes come with calorie counts and various programs, with varying levels of difficulty. More resistance means more calories burnt in the time you workout, so I'd go for as high resistance as I can take comfortably. Don't overdo it though. Start easy, go steeper, or increase the resistance as you progress through the workout. I got impatient and went for higher resistance than was comfortable and ended up with painful knees. The pain subsided over the week as I reduced the resistance level. Not something I'd want to push.
